Local Businesses joined the AKV Business + programme

Local businesses teamed up with AKV for a four-session, hands on education series. This was an opportunity to learn about our local area, waterways and meet other businesses.

WHAT IS BUSINESS PLUS?

Business plus is about connecting business and community with a common goal of trying to improve our local waterways.

A representative from each business participated in four practical sessions to learn about the wider Kaikorai area, water, geology and some of the challenges our Kaikorai Stream faces.

Program outline

Sessions were 3 hours long (1pm - 4pm) and one month apart to make it easier on roster and pay runs.

SESSION ONE - 17 Feb 2026

Tour Mt Grand water treatment plant and Kaikorai Valley looking at the geology and how water flows in our stream.

SESSION TWO - 24 Mar 2026

Learn about the catchment history, people, business and landscape. Site visit to Dynes Transport yard to look at best practices and challenges.

SESSION THREE - 28 Apr 2026

Learn about water testing, temperature, PH, turbidity, invertebrate counts, + observe an electric fishing survey and site assessment.

SESSION FOUR - 26 May 2026

Participate in a tree planting session and “Only Drain Rain” presentation.
