Brockville Park receives some aroha

AKV took part in Keep Dunedin Beautiful cleanup week by hosting a cleanup at Brockville Recreation Reserve. Fourteen keen volunteers contributed on Saturday morning, ready with sacks in hand to pick up rubbish. Sprawling over such a large area, the reserve proved to be hiding more trash in its trees and shrubs than was initially expected. The border with Dalziel Road certainly needed a good clean up, to keep that rubbish out of the water system.

The process highlighted just how much waste is produced in our daily lives. The team took out 9 large sacks of rubbish and as a bonus sorted out a large sack of recyclable materials that will be kept out of landfill. This project was supported by Keep Dunedin Beautiful who provided equipment and rubbish removal services. 

After all the physical work, the group went back to Aroha Kaikorai Valley headquarters for a well-deserved morning tea. It was great to catch up with regular volunteers and to meet a variety of new people too! We hope to see you again soon.
