Our first monthly meeting of spring

There was an air of high quality at our air quality meeting!

Josh Smith, presented at our September meeting and described how the air quality project got started. He shared some of the successes and challenges of the project to date and outlined how winter has affected the air quality in Kaikorai Valley.

Cold, still nights trap smoke close to the ground (temperature inversions), so readings are highest on calm, frosty evenings​. We were impressed with how quickly the project has developed and are looking forward to learning more about Dunedin's air quality over time.

Our Inspiring Conservationist segment was lead by Bob Brown, who explained how we don't have to wait to be David Attenborough or Jane Goodall to make changes to our lives. We can do small things together that add up to a big positive difference. For example, we can go to a rubbish cleanup and improve the health of the stream.

James Leask gave a brilliant talk on the Korimako Bellbird. He taught us how to tell the difference between the male and female birds, and how to distinguish the bellbird call from the similar tūī call.
