Supporting our people to grow

Supporting our people to grow

11th March 2026

AKV is keen to get stuck into its various projects, but we also want to empower our volunteers to be the best they can be. Some of our volunteers have been busy throughout the last month attending various training events.

  1. A large contingent of us joined forces with City Sanctuary’s volunteers at the Woodhaugh Gardens. We learnt from our local experts how to set rat traps, how to catch mustelids, and how to monitor for the presence of predators.

  2. Some of our key trappers met Paul at Kenmure Park to level up their trapping game. One of the top tips was to borrow some peanut oil to loosen up the springs on the traps.

  3. Six AKV volunteers took a risk management course at Chingford Park. This is a huge win for AKV having so many of our volunteers tuned in to potential risks at our outdoor events, and sharing the same language around assessing potential hazards.

  4. Paul and Marcella completed an outdoor first aid course. We hope they don’t have to use their newly minted skills on us, but we’re glad they’re trained up just in case!

Thank you to City Sanctuary for putting on a great training event, and to the DCC volunteer fund for enabling the risk management and first aid training.

AKV will be continuing to offer upskilling events, so keep in the loop if you’d like to be involved next time.
