100th AKV trap installed
2nd February 2024
A big milestone was reached this week with the 100th predator trap being installed in Kaikorai Valley. The 100th trap was a ‘trapinator’ possum trap, in the back yard of Jan Jodczyk. He had been trapping rats on his property but hadn’t had a chance to catch possums, until he saw Aroha Kaikorai Valley advertise the opportunity of hosting a possum trap. He hoped the removal of possums would enrich the diversity of plant and bird life at his property.
The trap has got off to a busy start, catching a possum on only the 2nd night of it being placed in his property. We hope to install a further 280 traps over the coming months.
If anyone in Kaikorai Valley would like to host a trap, please emailconnect@akv.nz.
